#10 Oilers Defeat #16 Chargers, 64-53

The University of Findlay men's basketball team, ranked tenth in the nation, claimed at least a share of their ninth Great Lakes Intercollegiate Athletic Conference (GLIAC) South Division title with a 64-53 win over #16 Hillsdale College on Thursday, February 24 in Croy Gymnasium. The victory gives the Oilers a 22-3 record on the season with a 15-3 mark in the conference.

The Oilers, who shot only 34 percent (16-of-47) from the floor, had it going from the free throw line as they connected on 30-of-34 (88.2%) attempts. The Oilers also forced 21 turnovers, coming up with 15 steals, and held the Chargers to a 39.1 percent (18-of-46) shooting clip.

Junior guard Kyle Caiola led the team with 18 points, hitting all ten of his free throw attempts.

Sophomore forward Brad Piehl added nine points and five rebounds while senior guard Nathan Hyde and sophomore guard Aaron Robinson chipped in eight points apiece.

Brent Eaton led the Chargers with ten points.

The Oilers, who secured a home contest in the first round of the GLIAC Tournament with the win, will be back in action again on Saturday when they host Lake Superior State University at 1 pm in Croy Gymnnasium.
