Warriors Top #9 Oilers 73-64 in Semfinals

The University of Findlay men's basketball team, ranked ninth in the nation, fell 73-64 to Wayne State University on Saturday, March 5 in the semifinals of the 2011 Great Lakes Intercollegiate Athletic Conference (GLIAC) Tournament. The loss gives the Oilers a 24-4 record on the season.

As a team, the Oilers shot 38.6 percent (22-of-56) from the field while the Warriors connected on 44.9 percent (22-of-49). The Warriors also held a big advantage at the free throw line, hitting 28-of-40 (70 percent) while the Oilers connected on 15-of-20 (75%) shots from the charity stripe.

Senior guard Nathan Hyde led the team with 18 points on 6-of-11 shooting while junior guard Kyle Caiola contributed 17 points on 8-of-13 shooting from the field.

Sophomore guard Aaron Robinson added seven points and nine rebounds while sophomore forward Jack Smith registered seven points in the defeat.

The Warriors were led by Bryan Smothers, who scored 20 points.

The Oilers will now await their fate concerning the NCAA Division II Tournament, which is scheduled to be announced Sunday evening.
