#7 Oilers Hold Off Yellow Yackets 90-84

The University of Findlay men's basketball team, ranked seventh in the National Association of Basketball Coaches (NABC) poll, had their best shooting night of the young season on Tuesday, November 22 en route to a 90-84 win over Cedarville University.

The Oilers built a 12-point lead at the 10:29 mark of the second half on a lay-up by sophomore forward Mark Frilling, but the Yellow Jackets would not go quietly.

After trading baskets for the next few minutes, the Yellow Jackets trimmed the Oilers lead to four points at 75-71 on a bucket from Zach Brown.  The Oilers quickly answered however as junior guard Aaron Robinson stroked a pair of three pointers on back-to-back offensive possessions to give Findlay a little more cushion.

The Yellow Jackets eventually climbed within four points again on triple by Brown with 2:08 remaining in the game, but the Oilers got a lay-up by sophomore forward Greg Kahlig and a free throw by junior forward Jack Smith to close out the game.

The Oilers shot a season-high 54.1 percent (33-of-61) from the field and drilled a season-best 11-of-19 (57.9%) shots from three point range.

The Yellow Jackets also shot well, hitting 50.9 percent (28-of-55) of their shots and 52.4 percent (11-of-21) of their triple tries.

Kahlig scored a game-high 26 points on 10-of-14 shooting while Robinson canned a career-high 5-of-7 three point attempts en route to a season-high 17 points.

Smith had a solid all-around game with 12 points, nine rebounds and four assists while junior forward Brad Piehl contributed nine points, four assists and three steals.

Senior guard Kyle Caiola added eight points and four assists while Frilling recorded eight points off the bench.

The Yellow Jackets were led by Brian Grant's 16 points.

Marcus Reineke (15), Jimmy Nwogbo (14), Brown (14) and Austin Foote (13) all reached double figures for Cedarville in the game.

The Oilers, who are now 3-1 on the season, will be back in action again on Monday, November 28 against the University of Illinois-Springfield.  Tip-off is scheduled for 8:45 p.m. in Springfield, Illinois.
