Men's Basketball Signs 2 More

The University of Findlay men's basketball team added two more players to their recruiting class as they signed Alphonso Baity from Reitz Memorial High School (Ind.) and local product Konnor Baker from Ada High School.

Baity, a 6'1, 175-pound guard, averaged 16 points, five rebounds, four assists and three steals per game as a senior.  A first team all-Metro selection in Evansville, Ind., Baity was a three-year starter for the Tigers and also earned all-Southern Indiana Athletic Conference (SIAC) honors three times during his career.

"Alphonso helps to solidify our point guard position," said head coach Charlie Ernst.  He is very skilled and has all the traits you want in a point guard.  "He brings better than normal length to this position and we will try to find ways to take advantage of that.  He also does a nice job of balancing scoring with a great ability to make his teammates better."

Baker, a 6'3, 190-pound guard, was a first team all-Ohio pick during his senior season while also being named the Northwest Conference (NWC) Player of the Year.  Ada's all-time leading scorer with 1,567 points, Baker was also tabbed the 2012 Northwest District Co-Player of the Year and the 2012 District 8 Player of the Year.

The Ada, Ohio native also earned first team all-NWC honors three times during his tenure with the Bulldogs.

"Konnor continues our tradition of keeping the best players in Northwest Ohio close to home," said Ernst.  "He is tough and scores in multiple ways.  He has been a multi-sport athlete and his commitment to one sport should help his progression as a player."

The duo will join early signee Dylan Kaufman, who was named the Division IV Player of the Year in Ohio for the second straight season en route to leading Berlin Hiland High School to the 2012 Division IV state championship.

His team also captured the 2011 Ohio state championship as well.

"We are very excited to have these players join our program," said Ernst.  "They are all quality people and talented players that follow our trend of signing players that come from successful high school programs.  They all possess the same qualities we always look for, which includes talent, character and unselfishness."
