Men's Basketball is the Favorite to Win the South

The University of Findlay men's basketball team was picked as the favorite to win the Great Lakes Intercollegiate Athletic Conference (GLIAC) South Division as the league office announced their annual preseason poll on Wednesday, Oct. 31.

The Oilers, who are currently ranked third in the nation and finished last year with a 24-7 record, received 17 first place votes and a total of 178 votes overall in the poll.

Hillsdale College came in second in the South Division with five first place votes and 159 votes overall while Ashland University was third with 140 votes, capturing one first place vote as well.

Michigan Technological University is the early favorite to win the North Division after totaling eight first place votes and 157 votes overall.  The Huskies edged Wayne State University in the poll, who received 155 total votes and nine first place votes.

Individually, senior guard Aaron Robinson and junior forward Greg Kahlig were each tabbed as preseason first team all-conference selections.

Robinson, who has been named to the all-defensive team in each of the past two seasons, averaged 7.1 points, 3.3 rebounds, 2.0 assists and 1.0 steals per game last year.

During his career, Robinson has racked up 773 points and will look to reach the 1,000 point plateau as a senior.

Kahlig was a second team all-conference pick last year after averaging 12.6 points, 4.5 rebounds and 1.6 assists per game.  He also shot 52.2 percent from the field, 82.6 percent from the free throw line and 41.1 percent from behind the three point arc.
