Oilers Come Away With 69-55 Win at Ashland

The University of Findlay men's basketball team scratched and clawed their way to a 69-55 victory at Ashland on Thursday, Feb. 13 to run their record to 18-4 on the year with a 14-4 mark in the Great Lakes Intercollegiate Athletic Conference (GLIAC).

The Eagles jumped out to an 8-0 lead in the first four minutes of the game before junior forward Jake Heagen stopped the bleeding with a jumper.  The Oilers would then continue to fight their way back into the game and eventually took a 20-19 lead on a triple by sophomore guard Dylan Kaufman with 6:32 remaining in the opening period.  Findlay would not relinquish their lead for the rest of the game as they won their fifth straight contest.

The Oilers shot 47.7 percent (21-of-44) from the floor and forced 20 turnovers in the game.  They only connected on 3-of-16 (18.8%) shot attempts from three point range, but did hit 77.4 percent (24-of-31) of their free throws.

Heagen led the way with 18 points while senior forward Greg Kahlig scored 17.

Kaufman reached double figures with ten points and sophomore guard Alphonso Baity added eight points, four assists and three rebounds.

The Eagles shot 43.2 percent (16-of-37) from the floor and were led by Will Evans, who scored 13 points.

The Oilers will be back again on Saturday when they face Lake Erie at 3 p.m. in Painesville, Ohio.
