Kahlig Stays Hot, Leads Oilers to Win Over Malone

The University of Findlay men's basketball team defeated Malone University by a score of 79-63 on Saturday, Feb. 22 in Croy Gymnasium.  The win gives the Oilers a 21-4 record on the year with a 16-4 mark in the Great Lakes Intercollegiate Athletic Conference (GLIAC).

Senior forward Greg Kahlig, who had scored over 40 points in each of the past two games, ended his senior day contest with 39 points on 14-of-24 shooting.

Kahlig, who has scored 121 points in the past three games, also added seven rebounds, four steals and three assists.  He also canned 5-of-9 shot attempts from behind the three point line and made all six of his attempts from the charity stripe.

The Ft. Recovery, Ohio has now scored 1,747 points to rank seventh all-time at Findlay.  His 606 points as a senior currently ranks seventh all-time as well.

Junior forward Jake Heagen also reached double figures in the win, scoring 11 points to go along with four rebounds, four assists, two blocks and a steal.

Sophomore guard Alphonso Baity chipped in six points and four assists while senior forward Mark Frilling had four points and a season-high 11 rebounds.

The Oilers shot 50 percent (30-of-60) from the floor and came away with nine steals in the win. 

The Pioneers, who shot 41.1 percent (23-of-56) from the field, were led by Cory Veldhuizen and Stephen O'Daniel as they both contributed 12 points in the game.

The Oilers will now close the regular season at Hillsdale on Thursday, Feb. 27.  The game is scheduled to tip at 8 p.m. in Hillsdale, Mich.
