Raiders Top Oilers 68-59 in Exhibition Game

The University of Findlay men's basketball team dropped their first exhibition game of the season, 68-59 to Wright State University on Nov. 5 at the Nutter Center in Fairborn, Ohio.

The Oilers jumped out to a 40-32 lead at the break on the strength of 59.3 percent (16-of-27) shooting from the floor. Findlay connected on five triples in the first half and also assisted on nine of their field goals.

In the second half, the Oilers were leading the Raiders by a score of 48-37 with 16:26 remaining before Wright State took control of the game with a 20-0 run. In a tale of two halves, the Oilers shot only 26.1 percent (6-of-23) in the second period and ended the game with 25 turnovers.

Junior guard Dylan Kaufman paced the Oilers with 17 points on 5-of-8 shooting. He canned three triples and also added five rebounds and a pair of assists in the game.

Senior forward Jake Heagen had nine points and six boards while sophomore guard Ricardo Smith contributed eight points, four rebounds and two steals.

Sophomore forward Tyler Stern-Tucker recorded seven points, three rebounds and three assists while junior forward John Staley had six points, three rebounds and three assists.

Freshman guard Elijah Kahlig chipped in five points and senior forward Luke Kohls snatched five rebounds.

The Raiders, who shot 42.1 percent (24-of-57) from the floor, were led by Steven Davis, who had 14 points and six rebounds.

The Oilers will conclude their preseason on Saturday, Nov. 8 when they travel to Toledo, Ohio to take on the Toledo Rockets at 2:30 p.m. Findlay will then host Cedarville on Nov. 18 at 7:30 p.m. in their home opener.
