Eagles Fly Past Oilers

The University of Findlay men's basketball team fell 80-47 to Ashland University on Jan. 22 in Ashland, Ohio. The loss gives the Oilers a 7-8 record with a 4-7 mark in the Great Lakes Intercollegiate Athletic Conference (GLIAC).

The Oilers made only 15 field goals in the game, hitting 31.9 percent (15-of-47) of their shot attempts. They converted a mere 3-of-20 (15%) three point tries and were out-rebounded by a 42-27 margin.

Junior guard Dylan Kaufman came off the bench to score a game-high 21 points for the Oilers, hitting 7-of-9 field goal attempts. Kaufman made nearly half of Findlay's field goals in the game and accounted for all three made three pointers.

Senior forward Jake Heagen scored eight points to go along with five rebounds while junior forward John Staley had five points, four rebounds and three steals.

The Eagles, who shot 48.2 percent (27-of-56) from the floor, received 17 points from Jett Speelman. Ashland also hit 14-of-29 (48.3%) attempts from long range and had six players score more than eight points in the game.

The Oilers will return to the hardwood on Saturday when they travel to Painesville, Ohio to take on Lake Erie at 3 p.m.
