Oilers Begin New Year at FSU/GVSU

The Oilers will hit the road to battle Ferris State (1/2) and Grand Valley State (1/3) in GLIAC action. The Oilers will be looking for their first road wins against Ferris State and Grand Valley State since the 2008-09 campaign.

Center Court with Charlie Ernst

Don't forget to tune into 88.3 FM "WLFC" for Center Court with Charlie Ernst.  The radio show will be aired live from Fricker's on Monday evenings during the season.  The show will be aired live from 6-6:30 p.m.  Fans are encouraged to attend the show so they can listen live over the sound system and enjoy the great food Fricker's has to offer.

Series Information

The Oilers hold a 19-7 advantage in the all-time series against Ferris State dating back to the 1962-63 campaign when the Bulldogs were victorious by a score of 79-66.

Ferris State defeated Findlay by a score of 79-73 last year in Croy Gymnasium. Findlay shot 44.3 percent (27-of-61) from the floor in the loss while the Bulldogs connected on 51.7 percent (31-of-60) of their shot attempts.

John Staley led the team with 15 points and four rebounds while Ricardo Smith contributed 14 points and five boards. Elijah Kahlig added 13 points while Dylan Kaufman had 12 points, seven rebounds and four steals.

The Oilers hold a 17-11 advantage in the all-time series against Grand Valley State dating back to the 1997-98 campaign when the Lakers came out on top by a score of 81-76.

Last season the Oilers came away with a 75-67 win over the Lakers in Croy Gymnasium. The Oilers shot 60.5 percent (26-of-43) from the floor and canned 10-of-21 (47.6%) shot attempts from behind the three point line.

Ricardo Smith led the team with 17 points on 5-of-9 shooting. He also recorded seven rebounds and five assists in the game.

Findlay

The Oilers ended the 2015 portion of their schedule on Dec. 19 with a 111-77 win over Marygrove College in Croy Gymnasium. The 111 points scored by the Oilers are the most since they put up 114 in a 114-82 win over Notre Dame College on Dec. 21, 2013.

The Oilers shot 61 percent (47-of-77) from the floor and out-rebounded the Mustangs by a 48-25 margin. The shooting percentage and total rebounds in the game were both season-highs for Findlay. The Oilers also dished out a season-high 28 assists, two shy of establishing a new school record, as well.

Dylan Kaufman paced the Oilers with a season-high 17 points on 7-of-8 shooting. Je a;sp added five rebounds in 20 minutes of action.

Alex White nearly recorded a double-double with a career-high 16 points and nine rebounds in 17 minutes of playing time off the bench.

John Staley scored 14 points while aren Sullivan added 13 points, five rebounds and three assists.

Katwan Singleton established new career-highs with 12 points, four rebounds and four assists while Tyler Stern-Tucker had 11 points and seven boards. Nick Ruthsatz also played well off the bench with seven points and a career-high nine assists.

Ferris State

The Bulldogs are 8-2 on the season with a 2-2 record in conference play. They are coming off of a 84-83 loss at Tiffin on Dec. 13.

Senior Jared Stolicker leads the team with averages of 17.0 points, 9.9 rebounds and 2.8 blocks per game. Senior Josh Fleming is also having a great season and sports averages of 14.8 points, 6.3 rebounds, 3.2 assists, 1.6 blocks and 1.2 steals per contest.

Senior James Chapell is also averaging in double figures at 12.8 points per outing.

Grand Valley State

The Lakers are 8-2 on the year with a 2-2 record in league play. They are coming off of a 51-48 win at Cedarville on Dec. 19.

Junior Luke Ryskamp leads four Lakers who are averaging in double figures with 16.0 points per contest. Senior Ricardo Carbajal (11.7), junior Juwan Starks (10.5) and senior Aaron Hayes (10.0) are also scoring in double figures on the year.

Senior Chaz Rollins is also off to a good start with averages of 9.2 points and 7.9 rebounds per game while junior Trevin Alexander is averaging 8.9 points and 6.7 boards per contest.

1,000-Point Plateau

Senior guard Dylan Kaufman is looking to become the Oilers 44th player to reach the 1,000-point plateau during his senior season with the team. During his career, Kaufman has scored 859 points, leaving him 141 points shy of reaching the milestone.

Magic Touch

Senior forward John Staley is hitting 67.3 percent (37-of-55) of his field goal attempts this season. Staley's shooting percentage is the second best mark in the GLIAC this year.

Staley set a single season school record last season by converting 64.1 percent (107-of-167) of his shot attempts.

Conference Championships

The Oilers have won 13 GLIAC South Division titles in their 18-year affiliation with the conference and have also won eight conference tournaments, capturing titles in 2004, 2005, 2007, 2009, 2010, 2012, 2013 and 2014. 

In the last 14 years, the Oilers have won 12 GLIAC South Division titles.  Overall, Findlay has won GLIAC South Division titles in 1998, 2002, 2003, 2004, 2005, 2006, 2007, 2009, 2010, 2011, 2013, 2014 and 2015.
