Oilers Burn the Dragons

Tiffin, OH – The University of Findlay men's basketball team overcame a seven point halftime deficit to take down the Dragons of Tiffin University by a final of 70-60. The win improves the Oilers record to 10-5 overall and 7-3 in Great Lakes Intercollegiate Athletic Conference (GLIAC) play.

The key to the Oilers victory was their play after the midway point as they outscored the Dragons 47-33 in the second half of play. After scoring just 23 points in the first half, Findlay exploded for 47 in the second while shooting 63% from the floor.

The big second half was thanks in part to the play of sophomore Martyce Kimbrough who scored just three points in the first half of action. After the break, Kimbrough scored 17 to finish with a team-high 20 points. He also had four rebounds and three assists.

Sophomore Taren Sullivan also played well for the Oilers as he was able to drop 14 points and grab four rebounds.

When Findlay needed a big shot, senior Dylan Kaufman answered. He knocked down a pair of big threes four minutes into the second half of play that kept the Dragons from pulling away. Findlay was down 37-31 when Kaufman nailed a triple and 50 seconds later, the Berlin, Ohio native drained another three, tying the game at 39. He finished with 11 points and four rebounds.

Senior John Staley led the Oilers on the boards with his six rebound performance. He also scored nine points for the Orange and Black.

Findlay will be back home on Thursday, Jan. 21 when they host #17 Ashland University in a game that features the two leaders in the GLIAC South. That contest will begin 7:30pm.
