Oilers Claim 71-63 Win Over #23 Ashland

The University of Findlay claimed a 71-63 win over 23rd-ranked Ashland University on Jan. 21 in Croy Gymnasium. The win gives the Oilers sole possession of first place in the South Division of the Great Lakes Intercollegiate Athletic Conference (GLIAC) with an 8-3 record in league play. The win also improves their overall mark to 11-5 on the year.

The Oilers jumped out to a 34-26 lead at the break and played even with Ashland in the second half as each team put 37 points on the board. Findlay shot 45.2 percent (28-of-62) from the floor and held the Eagles to a 42.6 percent (26-of-61) shooting clip. The Oilers also held a 39-34 advantage on the boards in the game.

Sophomore guard Martyce Kimbrough paced the team with 22 points on 7-of-19 shooting. He also added a team-high three assists in the win.

Senior guard Dylan Kaufman recorded his second career double-double with 14 points and 11 rebounds, hitting 6-of-11 shot attempts from the field. Five of Kaufman's game-high 11 boards came on the offensive end.

Senior forward John Staley and freshman forward Alex White contributed eight points and five rebounds apiece while junior forward Tyler Stern-Tucker added seven points to go along with three boards.

Sophomore forward Taren Sullivan also had a solid all-around game with six points, six rebounds, two blocks and a steal.

The Eagles were led by Adrian Cook, who had 19 points, eight rebounds and four assists.

The Oilers will remain at home to face Lake Erie College on Saturday at 3 p.m. in Croy Gymnasium.
