Lake Erie Storms Back to Beat Oilers in OT

The University of Findlay men's basketball team fell 81-67 in overtime to Lake Erie College on Feb. 13 in Painesville, Ohio. The loss gives the Oilers a 17-7 record on the season with a 14-5 mark in the Great Lakes Intercollegiate Athletic Conference (GLIAC).

The Oilers held a 65-60 lead with under 30 seconds to play, but the Storm roared back and hit a three pointer with 12 seconds remaining to tie the game. Sophomore guard Martyce Kimbrough's last second shot attempt then fell off the mark as the two teams headed to overtime.

Tied at 65-65, the Storm kept their momentum going and dominated the overtime period to claim the victory and give the Oilers their second straight loss. Combining the last 30 seconds of regulation and the overtime period, Lake Erie out-scored the Oilers by a 21-2 margin.

Senior forward John Staley led the team with a double-double, scoring 13 points to go along with 11 rebounds.

Kimbrough, sophomore forward Taren Sullivan and senior guard Dylan Kaufman each scored 11 points apiece while freshman forward Alex White contributed eight points in the loss. Kaufman also added seven boards while Kimbrough and Sullivan each grabbed three rebounds in the game.

The Oilers shot 41.8 percent (28-of-67) from the floor and made only 20.8 percent (5-of-24) of their three point tries.  The Storm meanwhile connected on 45 percent (27-of-60) of their shots and made 22-of-23 (95.7%) attempts from the free throw line in the contest. Their bench also out-scored the Oilers bench by a 48-17 margin.

Trey Howard led Lake Erie with a game-high 17 points while Andy Bosley had 15.

The Oilers will be back in action on Feb. 18 when they travel to Canton, Ohio to face Walsh University. The game is scheduled to tip at 7:30 p.m.
