The University of Findlay men's basketball team will open their 2017-18 campaign at the Hall of Fame Classic in Evansville, Ind. They will face a pair of programs who were nationally ranked last year in Indiana (Pa.) and St. Thomas Aquinas.
Findlay will play Indiana (Pa.) on Nov. 3. Indiana (Pa.) finished last year with a 28-4 record and were ranked eighth in the final NCAA Division II poll of the year. The Oilers will then face St. Thomas Aquinas on Nov. 4. St. Thomas Aquinas reached the NCAA Division II Elite 8 last season and ended the 2016-17 campaign with a 28-6 record.
The schedule doesn't get any easier for the Oilers to begin the year as they welcome Fairmont St. to town on Nov. 15 in their first home game of the year. Fairmont St. reached the NCAA Division II National Championship game last year and ended the 2016-17 campaign with a 34-3 record.
After hosting Fairmont St., the Oilers will take part in the Don Callan Classic in Cedarville, Ohio. The Oilers will play Lake Superior State on Nov. 17 before facing Miami-Hamilton on Nov. 18. They will then travel to Ferris State to battle a Bulldog team that ended last year ranked 14th in the nation with a 28-5 record on Nov. 25 before taking on Northwood two days later on Nov. 27 in Midland, Mich. The Oilers will then close a tough first month of the year with their first Greater Midwest Athletic Conference (G-MAC) contest at Kentucky Wesleyan on Nov. 30. The Panthers ended the 2016-17 campaign ranked fifth in the nation with a 28-3 record.
The month of December begins with a road game at Trevecca Nazarene on Dec. 2. They will then return to Croy to host Walsh on Dec. 7 and Malone on Dec. 9. After the two-game home stand, the Oilers will go back out on the road to battle Ohio Dominican (12/14) and Cedarville (12/16). They will then host Alderson-Broaddus on Dec. 19 and Goshen on Dec. 28 before ending the 2017 portion of their schedule on Dec. 30 at Davis and Elkins.
The Oilers will be at home on Jan. 2 to host Ohio Dominican. They will then be on the road at Lake Erie (1/6), Hillsdale (1/13) and Ohio Valley (1/20) before facing Trevecca Nazarene (1/25) and Kentucky Wesleyan (1/27) at home.
Findlay will start the final month of the regular season at Malone on Feb. 1. They will then remain on the road to face Walsh on Feb. 3 before closing the month in Croy. The Oilers will host Lake Erie on Feb. 8, Cedarville on Feb. 13, Ohio Valley on Feb. 15 and Hillsdale on Feb. 24.
The G-MAC Tournament will run from March 1-3 with the NCAA Division II Midwest Regional slated to take place on March 10-13. The 2017 NCAA Division II Elite 8 with then run from March 21-24 in Sioux Falls, S.D.
