#18 Oilers Travel to #5 Ferris and Northwood

The Oilers will be back out on the road for a pair of games at Ferris State and Northwood. They play the Bulldogs on Nov. 25 at 6 p.m. and then battle the Timberwolves at 6 p.m. on Nov. 27.

Series Information

The Oilers hold a 21-9 advantage over Ferris State in their all-time series. The two programs first met during the 1962-63 campaign when the Bulldogs were victorious by a score of 79-66.

The two programs last met in the second round of the 2017 NCAA Division II Midwest Regional in Louisville, Ky. The Oilers came away with a 68-63 win over the Bulldogs to advance to the Sweet 16.

Taren Sullivan led the way for Findlay with a stat-stuffing performance. He scored 22 points and grabbed a team-high eight rebounds. Sullivan also dished out two assists, had three steals and added a pair of blocks. He was joined in scoring by Martyce Kimbrough, who scored 21 points on 9-of-20 shooting. Kimbrough also added six rebounds in the victory.

Tyler Stern-Tucker finished with 13 points while Ricardo Smith finished the game with seven boards from the guard position. Aaron Overhiser came off the bench to record seven points and five rebounds as well.

As a team, the Oilers made 27-of-60 (45%) from the floor including 7-of-21 (33%) from beyond the arc while the Bulldogs made 26-of-66 (39.4%) from the field and made 7-of-27 (25.9%) from deep. Findlay held a 41-36 advantage on the glass.

The Oilers hold a 23-7 lead in the all-time series against Northwood dating back to the 1962-63 campaign when they defeated the Timberwolves 92-73.

Findlay scored a 91-73 win over Northwood last year in Croy Gymnasium.  The Oilers connected on 50.8 percent (33-of-65) of their shot attempts in the win and hit 12-of-29 (41.4%) attempts from behind the three point line. They also limited the Timberwolves to a 40.8 percent (29-of-71) shooting clip and held a 41-38 advantage on the boards.

Martyce Kimbrough poured in 28 points to lead the way. The Lima, Ohio native hit 9-of-22 attempts from the field and splashed 6-of-14 tries from long range.

Taren Sullivan produced a solid all-around game with 19 points, eight rebounds, four assists, two steals and two blocks while Katwan Singleton came off the bench to record 11 points. He also added three rebounds and three assists in the win.

Tyler Stern-Tucker was great off the bench as well for Findlay as he registered nine points, seven rebounds and two assists in the blowout victory.

#18 Findlay

The Oilers are 4-1 on the season and have been led by Taren Sullivan, who is averaging 18.8 points, 7.4 rebounds and 4.4 assists per game.

Martyce Kimbrough (14.4), Elijah Kahlig (12.6) and Aaron Overhiser (10.0) are also averaging in double figures this year for the Oilers.

#5 Ferris St.

The Bulldogs are 7-0 on the season and are currently ranked 5th in the nation.

Senior Drew Cushingberry leads the team and is averaging 15.3 points, 6.6 assists, 3.4 rebounds and 2.3 steals per game. Junior Zach Hankins, an All-American, is sporting averages of 13.7 points, 8.3 rebounds and 2.6 blocks per contest.

Senior Noah King is also averaging in double figures at 10.9 points per outing.

Northwood

The Timberwolves are 2-2 on the season and have been led by senior Nick Spitzley, who is averaging 12.3 points per game.

Junior Alec Marty (8.5), Nate Georgton (7.8) and David Jelinek (7.8) are also providing some scoring punch for Northwood.

National Poll

The Oilers are currently ranked 18th in the nation according to the latest National Association of Basketball Coaches (NABC) NCAA Division II men's basketball poll. The poll was released on Tuesday, Nov. 21.

1,000-Point Club

Senior forward Taren Sullivan ranks 38th all-time at Findlay with 1,155 career points while senior guard Martyce Kimbrough ranks 39th all-time at Findlay with 1,138 career points.

Three-Point Stroke

Senior guard Martyce Kimbrough ranks fifth all-time at Findlay with 206 three pointers. Kimbrough is chasing Greg Kahlig for fourth place all-time. Kahlig canned 215 three pointers for Findlay from 2011-14.

Kimbrough set a single-season record for most made three pointers last year with 114. His 114 made three pointers eclipsed the old record of 95, set by Nathan Hyde during the 2009-10 campaign.
