Oilers Fall Short Against Cedarville

The University of Findlay men's basketball team fell 68-66 to Cedarville University on Dec. 9 in Niekamp Arena. The loss gives the Oilers a 5-4 record on the season with a 1-2 mark in the Great Midwest Athletic Conference (G-MAC).

The Oilers held a 63-59 lead with just over two minutes to go in the game, but the Yellow Jackets scored seven straight points to take a 66-63 advantage with only 27 seconds remaining. Junior forward Nathan Bruns then scored to put the Oilers within one before Cedarville converted two at the free throw line to take a 68-65 lead with 12 seconds to play. Junior guard Joey Edmonds then made a free throw with only three ticks left and missed his second, which was rebounded by Bruns along the Oilers bench. A three pointer by Bruns was off target as the buzzer sounded however as the Oilers suffered their second straight loss in conference play.

The Oilers shot 44.6 percent (25-of-56) from the floor and converted 9-of-19 (47.4%) three point attempts. The Yellow Jackets meanwhile made 46.2 percent (24-of-52) of their shot attempts and sank 13-of-15 (86.7%) from the charity stripe in the game.

Bruns led the Oilers with 15 points, seven rebounds, and five assists while Edmonds finished with 14 points and five assists.

Senior forward Anthony Masterlasco reached double figures with 11 points while senior guard Tre'Maine Gray and freshman forward Josh Thorbahn had nine and eight points, respectively.

The Yellow Jackets were led by Conner TenHove's 17 points and ten rebounds.

The Oilers will be back in action again on Saturday when they host Ohio Dominican University at 3pm.
