McGeean Named GLIAC Athlete of the Week

Senior Joe McGeean was named the Great Lakes Intercollegiate Athletic Conference (GLIAC) Athlete of the Week on Wednesday, September 29 for the second consecutive time after assaulting the Oilers record book at the Arendsen Invitational in Allendale, Michigan.

McGeean led the way for the Oilers to finish in first place as he captured medalist honors at the event with a six-under par score of 138, a new school record for lowest 36 holes.

He shot a 73 in the opening round and then shattered the record books with a seven-under par score of 65 in the second.

The 65 is two shots lower than the school record of 67, which was done by Kyle Weisenburger, Eric Atsma and junior Michael Schmitmeyer, who accomplished the feat twice.

McGeean's total of 138 ties his own school record of 138, which he set at Northern Michigan University in 2008, but his six-under par score is two strokes better than his performance at NMU.
