Findlay Takes 2nd in First Event of the Year

Findlay, OH – The University of Findlay men's golf team kicked off their 2016 campaign at the Ohio Dominican Kickoff Classic on Tuesday, September 6. The 36-hole event was played at the Jefferson Country Club in Blacklick, OH. The finish was their highest since taking second place at the Wayne State Invitational in 2014.

Leading the Oilers on the course was freshman Luke Kelly. In his first collegiate event Kelly shot a two-over 146 (73/73). That score tied him for second place in the event.

Sophomore Dylan DeWitt and junior Justin Roth were the next two finishers for Findlay. DeWitt ended tied for 20th overall with a 153 (75/78) and Roth finished with a 155. He shot an 82 in the first round but came back nine shots better with a 73 in the second round. His score placed him in 27th.

Findlay native, freshman Sam Griffith rounded out the scoring for the Oilers as he carded a 157 (74/83) to finish tied for 37th.

Junior Cam Wardley was fifth on the squad and finished in 52nd overall with a 160 (83/77).

A pair of freshman that competed individually for Findlay, Chase Lakari and Grant Ricketts, showed their talent on the course with a couple of impressive performances. Lakari finished 16th overall with a 152 (74/78) and Ricketts ended tied for 22nd with a 154 (74/80).

The team's next event is the GLIAC Fall Tournament on September 17-18 in South Haven, Michigan.
