Oilers' Men Go Low in South Haven, MI

South Haven, MI – The University of Findlay men's golf team hit the links for the Great Lakes Intercollegiate Athletic Conference (GLIAC) North Invitational on Saturday and Sunday, September 17-18. The squad put on one of the best performances in recent memory as they finished in third place overall with a team score of 586.

The team got off to a hot start on the first day as they had three players break par to put the Oilers in first place with a team score of 287 after one round. That first round was one of the best in the team's history as they were just three shots off the school record of 284 that was shot in 2009 at the Spring Regional.

Leading the way for Findlay was freshman Sam Griffith who finished the tournament with a 143. His first round score of 69 place him in a tie for first after day one and after a 74 on day two, he wound up tied for fourth overall. Also tied for first after the first round was sophomore Dylan DeWitt who also carded a 69. His second round score of 79 left him in a tie for 21st overall.

Senior Cam Wardley got back to form as he ended the tournament in a tie for 14th. On the first day, Wardley shot a 71 and came back with a 75 on the second day to finish with a 146.

Junior Justin Roth and freshman Luke Kelly rounded out the scoring for the Oilers. Roth shot a 78 on the first day and bettered that round with an even par 72 on the second day to finish in a tie for 31st with a score of 150. Kelly finished in a tie for 57th with a final score of 158 (80/78).

The Oilers' men will be back on the course on Monday and Tuesday, September 26-27 for the NCAA Regional #1 in Calumet City, Illinois.
