Men's Golf in Sixth After Rainy 36 Holes at Doc Spragg

Findlay, Ohio – The University of Findlay men's golf team hosted the first day of the Doc Spragg Fall Invitational at the Findlay Country Club on Monday, Sep. 24. The event played host to 16 teams, eight of which finished last season ranked in the top ten in the Midwest region.

After a rainy first day in which teams played 36 holes of golf, the Oilers sit in a tie for sixth place after posting a 592 (296, 296 (+16)). The University of Indianapolis leads the event at 574 (-2) while Grand Valley State is in second with a 575 (-1).

The Oilers were led by the play of junior Luke Kelly who is currently tied for fourth in the individual standings with a 143 (-1) on the day. Kelly fired a 70 (-2) in the first 18 holes and wrapped up his day with a 73 (+1) in the second round. The Brownsburg, Indiana native was one of the most consistent golfers on the day, leading the field with 31 pars in 36 holes.

A pair of freshman finished the day at +5 (149) as Caleb Westfall and Tanner Grzegorczyk both are in a tied for 35th individually. Westfall fired a 75 and a 74 while Grzegorczyk carded rounds of 75 and 74. Westfall is fourth in the tournament with 26 pars made and Grzegorczyk is tied for ninth in par 5 scoring at -3.

Junior Cameron Bruce and sophomore Parker Haynes rounded out the Oilers scoring as they each are tied for 48th after posting a 152 on the first day. Haynes shot a 77 (+5) in the opening round and finished with a 75 (+3) in the final 18 holes while Bruce shot a 78 (+6) and a 74 (+2), respectively.

Findlay's second team is in 14th in the team standings as junior Sam Griffith (74-74 | 148), freshman Hunter Foltz (74-75 | 149), senior James Riepenhoff (80-76 | 156), junior Drew Prater (81-77 | 158), and junior Peyton Cooper (77-81 | 158) combined for a 607 (+31).

Senior Dylan DeWitt (81-74 | 155), sophomore Brock Kehres (79-80 | 159), sophomore Grant Williams (82-82 | 164), and junior Grant Rickets (89-85 | 174) also participated in the event.

The final 18 holes will be played tomorrow at Findlay Country Club.
