Findlay Takes Third in Final Regular Season Tournament
Noblesville, Ind. – The University of Findlay men's golf team picked up some momentum heading into the postseason as they took third place at the Greyhound Invitational in Noblesville, Indiana on Tuesday, April 9. The Oilers moved up one spot on the day to take third after posting a 294 in the final round which gave them a 54-hole score of 873 (+9), tied for the third-best three-round total in school history. Findlay, ranked sixth in the Midwest region heading into the week, finished higher than six of the other nine teams ranked in the region including top ranked Grand Valley St and second-ranked Missouri-St. Louis.
Junior Luke Kelly was the unquestioned leader of Findlay's squad this week as he capped off his 54-hole event with an even-par 72 on Tuesday. That gives him a score of 214 (-2) for the week which put him in a tie for sixth overall. That score of 214 is the sixth-best 54-hole stretch in school history. Kelly battled back after shooting a +2 (38) on the front nine to make three birdies on the back, securing his score of 72.
Senior Dylan DeWitt and freshman Tanner Grzegorcyzk each finished the tournament tied for 26th with a 220 (+4). DeWitt had three birdies on Tuesday and shot a 73 (+1) while Grzegorcyzk, who finished second in the field with 40 pars on the week, posted a 74 (+2).
Finishing in a tie for 33rd was junior Sam Griffith who shot a 75 (+3) in the final round to complete a 54-hole score of 221 (+5). Four shots behind Griffith was freshman Caleb Westfall who carded a 77 (+5) on Tuesday to finish with a 225 (+9) and tied for 48th.
Freshman Hunter Foltz competed as an individual and finished in a tie for 38th with a 223 (+7) after shooting a final round score of 77 (+5).
The Oilers are back in action on April 19-20 when they head to Lexington, Ky. in hopes to defend their 2018 title at the Great Midwest Athletic Conference (G-MAC) Championship at the University Club of Kentucky.
