Oilers in 2nd Place at G-MAC Championship | Kelly One Shot Off Individual Lead

Lexington, KY- The University of Findlay men's golf team took the course to compete in the Great Midwest Athletic Conference (G-MAC) Men's Golf Championship on Monday, April 19 at the University Club of Kentucky. After 36-holes on day one, the Oilers find themselves in second place behind Trevecca Nazarene after rounds of 289 and 291 for a 580 team total. The Oilers are 14 strokes back moving into the final round of 18 holes tomorrow.

Leading the Oilers was senior Luke Kelly with a 140 (-4) after 36 holes. Kelly fired an even par round of 72 in the opening round, and shot a field-best 68 (-4) in the second round of the day. Kelly currently leads the field in par four scoring and is just one stroke off the individual lead.

Behind Kelly was freshman Justin Atkinson who is tied for 9th with a 36-hole total of 145 (+1). Atkinson tallied an even par round of 72 and a one-over par round of 73 in the afternoon round of 18 holes.

Junior Tanner Grzegorczyk fired a stellar first round scoring of 69 (-3) and capped off the day with a score of 80 (+8) in the second 18 holes of the day. Grzegorczyk is tied for 20th in the event.

Senior Parker Haynes is tied for 23rd with a 150 (+6) after 36-holes. Haynes fired an opening round 76 (+4) and improved on that score with an afternoon round of 74 (+2). Rounding out the Oilers in a tie for 42nd is junior Caleb Westfall. Westfall totaled a 36-hole total of 156 (+12) with rounds of 80 (+8) and 76 (+4).

The Oilers will look to make a move up the leaderboard to capture their second confernece title in the past three times the G-MAC Men's Golf Championship has been played. The Oilers will begin teeing off tomorrow, April 20th, at 8:45 a.m. and can be followed live through GolfStat.
