Oilers in Sixth at Motor City Invite/National Championship Preview

Dearborn, Michigan- The University of Findlay men's golf team is in sixth place at the Motor City Invite after round one today, Oct. 10. The tournament is a preview of the Division II Men's Golf National Championship in May 2022 which will also be held at TPC Michigan. The Oilers shot a four-over par, 292 and is currently ten shots behind the leader, Colorado State- Pueblo. 

The Oilers were led by senior Tanner Grzegorczyk. Grzegorczyk shot three-under par, 69 and is in sixth place individually. He carded four birdies and one bogey on the round.   

Assisting Grzegorczyk, was senior Caleb Westfall and sophomore Donnie Professori. Westfall and Professori both shot one-over par, 73 and are tied for 20th. Sophomore Justin Atkinson shot a five-over par, 77 which leaves him in a tie for 47th. Rounding out the lineup is senior Parker Haynes who shot a seven-over par, 79 putting him in a tie for 59th 

Competing as individuals at the tournament are senior Hunter Foltz and freshman Jonathan Green. Foltz shot a two-over par, 74 which leaves him in a tie for 30th . Green shot a six-over par, 78 and is tied for 54th 

Findlay led the field in par three scoring, playing them even on the day. They also averaged 4.85 (-3) on the par fives.  

The Oilers will be chasing their second victory of the season tomorrow, Oct. 11, in their final round of the fall season with a shotgun start at 10am.
