#23 Oilers Finish in 4th at Bearcat Golf Classic

Greenwood, SC – The University of Findlay men's golf team concluded play at the Bearcat Golf Classic hosted by Lander University on Tuesday, March 7 in Greenwood, South Carolina. Tuesday's final round saw the Oilers, which began the day in fifth, move into a fourth-place finish after posting a 286 (-2) for a 56-hole total of 859 (-5). Findlay's 286 on Tuesday was tied for the best round of the day in a field that included three ranked teams; no. 1 Anderson (SC), no. 13 Clayton State, and no. 23 Findlay.

I'm proud of our team this week. Our ball striking was really good and this is a solid start to our spring season. There are a ton of positives to take away from this event as we move forward into the rest of our schedule.

Finished in a tie for 10th was senior Tanner Grzegorczyk who capped his tournament off with a final round score of 71 (-1), giving him a 54-hole score of 213 (-3). Close behind was junior Justin Atkinson who was able to finish the event with a 215 (-1) after a round of 71 (-1) on Tuesday. Atkinson was the measure of consistency as he made 15 pars, two birdies, and just one bogey in his final round.

Senior Caleb Westfall had the best round of the day for the Oilers as he fired a 69 (-3) on the strength of four birdies, a bogey, and 14 pars. He finished the event in a tie for 19th with a 216 (E).

In a tie for 36th was sophomore Tyler Vallee who posted a 75 (+3) on Tuesday for a 54-hole score of 219 (+3). Junior Donnie Professori rounded out Findlay's lineup with a 76 (+4), giving him a 222 (+6) and a finish of T51.

Despite playing as an individual, the top finisher for the Oilers was senior Hunter Foltz. After rounds of 72 (E) and a career-low of 68 (-4), Foltz shot 70 (-2) today to finish at 210 (-6), tied for third in the tournament.

Freshman Luke Metzger also played as an individual and finished in a tie for 63rd with a 223 (+7).

Findlay will return south for their next event as they will play in the Bobby Nichols Intercollegiate which is held in Sevierville, Tennessee. That event will be held over three days, from March 12-14.
