Oilers Wallop Malone University 6-1

The University of Findlay men's soccer team defeated Great Lakes Intercollegiate Athletic Conference (GLIAC) foe Malone University 6-1 on Sunday, October 6 at DeHaven Field. 

The Oilers jumped out to a 1-0 lead when junior Cullen Baron scored at the 8 minute mark.  His goal was assisted by senior Alex Oliver

The Oilers extended their lead when sophomore Mark Sleasman scored on a breakaway at the 24 minute mark.  His goal was assisted by sophomore Ryan Poyle

The Pioneers lone goal occurred at the 43 minute mark when Kurt Moore scored off of an assist by Josh Abend. 

The Oilers third goal of the contest occurred when the Pioneers accidentally scored on their own goal at the 61 minute mark. 

Cullen Baron scored his second goal of the contest on a header off of an assist by junior Kaulin Hooper at the 67 minute mark.  Then, at the 69 minute mark, sophomore Jared Lyon scored off of an assist by Poyle.

The Oilers continued their rapid scoring streak when Mark Sleasman scored his second goal of the game at the 70 minute mark.  His goal was assisted by goalkeeper Joe McClanahan.

Findlay goalkeepers Joe McClanahan and Alex Jurek picked up the win and had a combined three saves in the process.

The Oilers had the edge offensively with an 11-9 advantage in the shot department and were firing on all cylinders throughout the game. 

The Oilers, who improve to 3-6-1 on the year and earned their first victory in GLIAC play, will face GLIAC foe Lake Erie College on the road on October 11 at 7 p.m.
