Oilers Win 4-2 Over Malone

Canton, OH- The University of Findlay men's soccer team defeated the Malone Pioneers on Saturday, September 9 in a 4-2 decision. The Oilers improve their record to 3-0 on the season and 2-0 in Great Midwest Athletic Conference play.

Findlay began their scoring in the 13th minute when sophomore Josh Burton found the back of the net with an assist by freshman Josh Hales. Later in the half Hales would score his third goal of the season and Burton recorded the assist. The Oilers would head into halftime with a 2-0 lead.

The second half scoring started off quickly for the Oilers when sophomore Clayton Cooney scored his first goal of the season in the 47th minute. Findlay scored again in the 72nd minute with a goal coming from freshman Alex Kerstetter.

Two late goals from the Pioneers were not enough, as the Oilers won the 4-2 decision. Junior Nathan Sier and senior Ben Richter split time in front of the net, recording four and two saves respectively. The Oilers attempted 20 shots total in the match with 11 of those being on goal.

Findlay will continue their play Thursday, September 14 in a G-MAC contest at Lake Erie College. The match is set to begin at 4:00 PM.
