Last Second Goal Lifts Oilers

Findlay, OH – The University of Findlay men's soccer team defeated the Trevecca Nazarene University Trojans in a G-MAC matchup on Thursday, October 19 at DeHaven Field. The victory boosts the Oilers to 11-4 overall with a 10-2 record in the Great Midwest Athletic Conference while the Trojans fall to 6-6-2 (6-5-1) on the year.

The first half was a defensive battle, with neither team scoring in the first 44 minutes of play.

Findlay drew first blood just seconds before halftime, as sophomore Josh Dickinson scored on a header from a free kick. Junior Josh Burton was credited with the assist on the goal.

The Trojans came out of halftime firing, as they evened the match to 1-1 in the 5th minute of the second half.

The rest of the half was a battle, with Findlay letting off five shots to Trevecca's seven during the period. With just seconds remaining it looked as though the two teams were heading to an overtime period.

With less than ten seconds on the clock, senior Yardley Gonzales fired a pass into the box and found Kegan Wrinkler for a game-winning header with just three seconds remaining. Wrinkler came off the Oiler bench in the last minute of the matchup to deliver the game deciding score.

Senior Ben Richter was huge in front of the net for Findlay, recording seven saves on the day.

Findlay will be back on the pitch this Saturday, October 21 when they host Kentucky Wesleyan in another Great Midwest contest. The match is set to begin at 3:00 PM.
