Oilers Fall to ODU in Overtime, 4-3

Findlay, OH – The University of Findlay men's soccer team hosted their first home game against Ohio Dominican University on Thursday, September 20 at 4:00 PM. The Panthers were able to score the golden goal in overtime to give them the 4-3 advantage over the Oilers. The loss gives the Oilers a 2-5 record on the season with a 2-2 record in conference play while the Panthers are now 4-4 overall with a 3-2 in league play.

Findlay didn't waste any time attacking the net as junior Kegan Winkler scored the first goal of the game just a minute and 40 seconds into play. Ohio Dominican tried to fight back, tallying 6 shots in the first half, but they weren't able to put them on the board. Freshman Taylor Miles, however, was able to get the ball from sophomore Jack Atkinson to score a goal and take the Oilers into half time up by two.

The second period began with aggression, as the Panthers were trying to cut Findlay's lead before it was too late. ODU took three shots before a Findlay foul would give them a penalty kick which resulted in their first goal of the game in the 73rd minute. Their excitement led to them scoring a quick second goal just a minute later to help tie the game.    

The Panthers had momentum and were able to take the lead with a goal in the 78th minute. The Oilers didn't give up and continued to take shots until finally in the 82nd minute junior Josh Dickinson found the back of the net to tie up the game, 3-3. Regulation time ended and the game headed into overtime.

Overtime began and the Panthers attacked the Oilers defense and were able to take a shot that went wide. The Oilers were unable to create any scoring opportunities before ODU was able to finish the game with the golden goal in the 92nd minute of the match.

Senior Nathan Sier was in net for the Oilers and had three saves in the overtime loss.

The Oilers will be back at home again on Saturday, September 22 to take on Cedarville. The G-MAC conference matchup is set to begin at 1:00 PM.
