Oilers Open Up Season with Victory | Defeat Shepherd 1-0

Shepherd, West Virginia- The University of Findlay men`s soccer team faced the Shepherd University Rams in their season opener on the road on Saturday, September 7. The non-conference match up would allow the Oilers to capture their first victory of the year with a final score of 1-0.

In the first period of the contest, the first and only goal would be scored by Freshman David Hug at the 12:58 mark. Hug would lead the Oilers in shots taken with six, and also lead the game with four shots on goal. Along with Hug, Josh Dickinson and Josh Hales would each take three shots respectively.

Shepherd would try to make a late push at the end with two corner kicks in the last ten minutes, but the Oilers defense would hold tough to prevail in the end with their first victory of the season.  Goalkeeper Andrew Boulton would finish the game with three goal saves as well.

The Oilers would go on to outshot the Rams by a 21 to 5 margin in shots taken when it was all finished.

The Oilers will take this victory into their home opener on Tuesday, September 10 at 4:00 p.m. at DeHaven Field. The Oilers will also open up their conference schedule in this contest against the visiting Ohio Valley Fighting Scots.
