Oilers Tie in Double OT

Findlay, Ohio- The University of Findlay men's soccer team played yet another conference game against Cedarville University on Thursday, October 10. The game went the distance in a double overtime battle between the conference competitors ending in a final score of 2-2. With the tie, the Oilers move to 6-3-1 (3-3-1) and the Yellow Jackets move to 4-1-5 (2-1-4) on the season.

The Oilers opened up the scoring in the first half when Ben Bolinger connected a goal from outside the box from an assist by Peyton Trask. Bolinger's goal, his first of the season, occurred in the 14th minute. Within six minutes, the Yellow Jackets struck back.

Off an assist from Pedro Alvares, Alexander Narog kicked one to the back of the net to tie up the contest 1-1 in the 20th minute. Cedarville once again scored before the final horn of the first half to lead 2-1 heading into halftime. This time, Trey McBride scored in the 42nd minute for the Yellow Jackets.

With roughly 15 minutes left of regular play, Josh Hales came through after Alex Kerstetter crossed it from the other side of the field to knock in a goal in the 76th minute. The goal by Hales moved the contest to overtime and eventually marked the final goal scored in the game. After 20 minutes of extra time and two overtimes later, the contest ended in a tie, 2-2.

The Yellow Jackets shot five more times than the Oilers to make a margin of 17-12 including an 8-6 margin in shots on goal. The Oilers had two players in Kerstetter and Josh Dickinson have four shots a piece in the game. Goalkeeper Andrew Boulton saved a game-high 6 shots for the Oilers as well.

The Oilers will be back in action on Saturday, October 12 at home for another conference dual against the visiting Ohio Dominican Panthers. The game is scheduled for a 1:00 p.m. start.
