Oilers Secure Victory over Pioneers 1-0

Findlay, Ohio- The University of Findlay men's soccer team took the field to take on the visiting Malone Pioneers in the Great Midwest Athletic Conference matchup. In each of their first games played on the year, the Oilers took the victory in a 1-0 win. With the win, the Oilers start the season 1-0 (1-0) while the Pioneers fall to 0-1 (0-1).

Throughout the game, the Oilers possessed the ball and maintained the momentum behind a shot margin advantage of 17 to 4 in shots taken. One shot proved to be the key to victory when junior Patryk Kibler was awarded a penalty kick during the 38th minute of play. With a right foot to the left corner, Kibler put the Oilers up 1-0 and ultimately proved to be the winning goal to push the Oilers to the shutout win.

Eleven different Oilers contributed to the 17 shot total on the afternoon led by senior Josh Hales and sophomore David Hug. Over half of those shots taken were on goal with a total of nine shots on goal.

The defense for the Oilers showed their strength to help propel the team to their first win of the year. Sophomore Andrew Boulton captured the win protecting the net with two saves.

The Oilers will prepare next for a three game road stretch beginning on Thursday, March 18th against Kentucky Wesleyan at 6:00 p.m. EST.
