Oilers Fall to the Rock | Head Home from Debut Trip

Slippery Rock, Pa.– The University of Findlay men's soccer team continued their trip to the northeast as they took on the Slippery Rock Rocks on Saturday, Aug. 2 at James Egli Field. The Oilers came into the match with a 1-0 record after they won against Roberts Wesleyan in their season opener. However, the Oilers couldn't pull off the comeback they did two days prior and fell to the Rocks 2-1.

The Rocks got on the board early, just three minutes into the game, when Alex Plimmer found the back of the net for a 1-0 advantage early in the contest.

Roughly 25 minutes later, the Oilers struck back. Senior Bjoern Gilles scored on a penalty kick after a foul against Slippery Rock's Ramses Minaya, tying the game at 1-1.

In the 52nd minute the Rock striked again. They found the back of the net on a penalty kick after a yellow card on goalkeeper Andrew Boulton. This gave the Rocks a 2-1 lead with 40 minutes remaining in the half.

The Oilers failed to find another goal but never let up with 21 shots in the contest and nine being on goal. They forced Hossam Aly, the goalkeeper for the Rocks, to make eight saves. For the Oilers, Andrew Boulton made one save.

The contest was physical with eight cards being handed out, seven yellow and one red.

Findlay returns to their home turf for their next contest on Saturday, Sept. 3 when they take on Purdue Northwest at 1pm.
