Semal Leads Oilers at ITA

The University of Findlay men's tennis team competed at the ITA Midwest Regional on Friday, Sep. 19 in Indianapolis, Ind.

Robin Semal led the Oilers on the first day of competition as he posted a 2-0 record in the "A" singles tournament.  Semal won 6-1, 6-4 against 5th-seeded Nils Mueggenburg of Missouri-St. Louis and then defeated Northwood's Salikh Gilmutdinov by a line of 6-2, 6-4.  He will compete against Lewis' Eric Aunapuu tomorrow for the right to reach the semifinals.

Semal also teamed with John Kidd to advance one round in the "A" doubles tournament. They came away with an 8-5 victory over McKendree's Blake Kebblewhite and Ben Muller in the opening round and will battle Lewis' Andre Norsaith and Mate Srdanovic tomorrow.

Kidd is still alive in the "A" singles consolation bracket as he went 1-1. He will face Tiffin's Agus Mangone tomorrow.

Oriol Ferrer posted a 1-1 record in the "A" singles while Djordje Ljubinkovic went 0-2 in "A" singles competition.

Ljubinkovic teamed with Connor Majdalani to go 0-1 in "B" doubles competition while the Oilers team of Reid Wynkoop and Alex Hawes posted a 0-1 record in the group as well.

Both Majdalani and Wynkoop finished "B" singles competition with 0-2 records.

The tournament will continue through Sunday.
