Vicars Named Midwest Field Athlete of the Year
Senior Derrick Vicars of The University of Findlay men's track and field team was named the Midwest Field Athlete of the Year as the United States Track and Field and Cross Country Coaches Association (USTFCCCA) announced their annual awards on Thursday, May 17.
Vicars, who was named both the Great Lakes Intercollegiate Athletic Conference (GLIAC) Indoor and Outdoor Field Athlete of the Year during the 2011-12 campaign, won a conference title in the shot put during both seasons and is a six-time NCAA Division II All-American.
The Genoa, Ohio native is entered in the shot put, hammer, and discus for the NCAA Championships. He is only one of three men in the meet to be entered in three individual events and finished the season ranked in the top five nationally in all three events.
