Welch Named USTFCCCA National Athlete of the Week

Junior Justin Welch of the Oilers track team was named the United States Track and Field and Cross Country Coaches Association (USTFCCCA) National Athlete of the Week on March 31.

Welch earned the honor for his performance at the Raleigh Relays on March 28-29 by taking first place in the hammer throw. His winning mark of 230-1 (70.13m) was almost 20 feet over Michigan State's Antonio James, who finished second in the event.  The mark was good enough to set a school record and is the fourth longest heave in the history of NCAA Division II.
