Welch Named GLIAC Field Athlete of the Week

Junior Justin Welch was named the Great Lakes Intercollegiate Athletic Conference (GLIAC) Outdoor Track and Field Athlete of the Week on April 2.

Welch finished first in the hammer throw at the Raleigh Relays on March 28-29 with a school record-breaking toss of 230'01 (70.13m). The NCAA Division II automatic qualifying heave was almost 20 feet past Michigan State's Antonio James, who finished second in the event.  The toss was also the fourth longest in the history of NCAA Division II outdoor track and field.

The junior thrower also secured honors as the national track athlete of the week for his performance at the Raleigh Relays.
