Oilers Split Games

Carly Borders pounded a two-run pinch-hit triple in the eighth inning of the first game of a twinbill at Brewton-Parker College to secure a 9-7 win for UF at Mt. Vernon, GA.

The Oilers had taken a first-inning lead on a two-run homer by freshman Tori Allen and Findlay held a 4-3 lead after three innings. Allen drove-in another with a fifth-inning single but the Barons tied the game at 6-6 by the end of four.

Borders laced her game-winner in the top of the eighth, driving home Kara Hochevar who was placed on second via the extra-inning tie-breaker rule, and winning pitcher Brittany Dauterman who had walked. Dauterman allowed three hits, two runs and fanned two in 4.1 innings of relief following starter Jackie Messersmith.

Taylor Kessinger added two hits for UF.

The Barons jumped starter Julia Stalder with four first-inning runs in game two, and eventually built the lead to 10-0. Jaci Messmer became UF's first baserunner with a fifth-inning leadoff walk, and then another walk by Borders followed by singles by Taylor Bell, Courtney Dwyer and Jenna Motuza made the score 10-4. That was it for the Findlay offense, however, and the final was 11-4 in favor of Brewton-Parker (19-6).

Alyssa Schultz and Tawna Whited combined to pitch the final five innings in relief for UF (7-1).

The Oilers return to action on Friday in a Noon encounter with Ohio Dominican followed by a 2pm contest with SCAD to wrap-up their Georgia trip.
