Oilers Split Games

The University of Findlay softball team split a pair of games on Monday, March 5, in Hardeville, South Carolina. The Oilers fell 6-5 to Walsh University before picking up their first season victory against Milligan College, 1-0 in eight innings. Findlay now sports a 1-2 mark on the year.

Walsh jumped starter Grace Ammons with four second-inning runs in game one, and built the lead to 5-1 at the bottom of the third. At the top of the next frame, Jenna Motuza raced home after a rip to right field from Courtney Dwyer.

Sophomore Allie Cox gave the green light for Emily Reynolds and Jackie Messersmith to score. Despite the strong Oiler rally, the Cavaliers proved too much as they came out on top 6-5.

Both Reynolds and Dwyer generated two hits in the contest while relief pitcher Brittany Dauterman fanned six batters in only three innings at the mound.

Scoreless after seven innings in the second contest, Tori Allen brought Dwyer home in the bottom of the eighth, giving Findlay their first win of the season, 1-0, against Milligan College.

Tanya Whited picked up her first win as she allowed only two hits and three walks in her eight innings of action, including seven strikeouts for Findlay.

The Oilers will be back in action again tomorrow against Milligan and Malone, starting at 2 p.m.
