Findlay Dominates Lake Erie

The University of Findlay softball team swept Lake Erie College on Saturday, April 7 at Anderson Field. The Oilers won the first game 8-0 in game one and then won 14-1 in five innings to give them a 18-13 record on the season with a 9-7 mark in the Great Lakes Intercollegiate Athletic Conference (GLIAC).

Freshman pitcher Grace Ammons picked up her fifth win as she allowed only two runs off of four hits in seven innings of work.

In the first frame, Brittany Dauterman plated Jackie Messersmith with a double to right field. The following inning, catcher Lauren Mathias' two-run homer gave Findlay the early 3-2 lead.

In the bottom of the fourth, three consecutive singles loaded the bases. Carly Border's base hit plated both Courtney Dwyer and Jenna Motuza. Another run in the fifth gave Findlay the 8-0 victory against Lake Erie.

Borders, Dauterman, Dwyer and Mathias each had two hits in the opener while both Borders and Mathias had two RBI each.

Tawna Whited took the win in game two, giving up just one run from five hits while generating four strikeouts in her five frames on the mound.

Findlay capitalized on five Storm errors and 14 hits for 14 runs in game two. Dwyer, Messersmith, Dauterman and Morgan Arnold each had two hits in the second contest. Dwyer produced two runs-batted-in as the Oilers picked up their fourth consecutive win.

The Oilers will be back in action as they host Tiffin University on Tuesday, April 10 for a doubleheader starting at 3:30 p.m.
