Oilers Softball Sweeps Northwood, Dauterman Breaks Records
The University of Findlay softball team swept Northwood University in a twin bill on Sunday, April 14 in Midland, Mich. The wins give the Oilers a 17-9 record on the season with a 5-7 mark in Great Lakes Intercollegiate Athletic Conference (GLIAC) play.
The Oilers won the first game by a score of 15-8 as they pounded out 17 hits in the game.
Carly Borders smashed two home runs and finished the game by going 3-for-5 with five runs batted in and two runs scored.
Brittany Dauterman also had a big game at the plate as she finished 4-for-5 with three runs scored and one RBI. She smoked three doubles in the game and also picked up the victory on the mound, allowing eight runs on ten hits in five innings of work to improve to 7-4 on the year.
Courtney Dwyer also hit a home run and finished 3-for-4 at the dish with a pair of runs batted in while Tawna Whited added two hits and two RBI's as well.
In the second game, which the Oilers won 17-6 in another great offensive showing.
Dauterman finished 2-for-4 at the plate with four RBI's and hit a three-run home run in the Oilers 12-run second inning to set the career record home runs and runs batted in at Findlay.
Dauterman now has 22 career home runs, one more than Samantha Bradburn (1986-89) hit during her tenure with the team. She also has 125 runs batted in, bettering the mark of 122, which was set by Bradburn as well.
Borders went 2-for-2 with three runs scored and also hit her third home run of the day in the victory.
Jenna Motuza finished 2-for-3 with three runs and three runs batted in while Whited went 3-for-3 with three runs scored and a pair of RBI's.
Motuza now has 166 career hits and is chasing the record of 171, which Bradburn set.
Whited also picked up the victory on the mound, allowing six runs, only two earned, in five innings of work.
The Oilers will host Lake Superior State University tomorrow at noon for a doubleheader.
