Oilers Defeat Pioneers

The University of Findlay softball team swept Malone University in a twin bill on Thursday, April 18 at Anderson Field. The Oilers won the first game 16-2 in five innings and defeated the Pioneers 10-1 in the second contest. Findlay improves to 21-9 overall with a 9-7 mark in the Great Lakes Intercollegiate Athletic Conference (GLIAC).

Brittany Dauterman picked up the win in the lid lifter, allowing two runs on two hits and three walks in her five innings on the mound.

Tori Allen and Carly Borders each homered in game one as both players generated two hits. Allen and Borders had three and two runs batted in, respectively. Tawna Whited and Jackie Messersmith each added two RBI's as well.

Jenna Motuza went 2-for-3 in the opener, including a triple to right center that plated Courtney Dwyer and pinch runner Alyssa Kashat.

In the second game, Motuza hit her 171st career hit in the top of the sixth to tie Oiler Samantha Bradburn (1986-89). She will look to break the Findlay career hits record this weekend against GLIAC foes Lake Erie and Walsh.

Allen, Dauterman, and Borders each produced two hits in game two. Dauterman led the team with three runs batted in.

Tawna Whited collected her tenth win of the 2013 campaign with five strikeouts and allowing no walks from the mound.

Findlay will host Lake Erie College for a doubleheader on Saturday, April 20. The GLIAC twinbill is slated for 1 p.m. at Anderson Field.
