Oilers Split Doubleheader Against Tiffin

The University of Findlay women's softball team traveled to Tiffin, Ohio for a Great Lakes Intercollegiate Athletic Conference (GLIAC) doubleheader against Tiffin University on Sunday, March 30.  The Oilers dominated the first game against the Dragons winning 10-4 while struggling in the second game losing 8-3.  Splitting the doubleheader gives the Oilers a 9-6 mark on the season.    

In the first game, the Oilers took a commanding lead when they scored five runs in the first inning, then took a 9-3 lead through four innings which led to the victory.  Lauren Trumpler had a big game at the plate finishing with a double, single, one run scored and three RBI. 

Courtney Dwyer added a single, a double and an RBI while Tawna Whited added a pair of runs, a single and two RBI.  Tori Allen contributed a single RBI in the contest.    

Whited also picked up the victory on the mound by striking out three hitters in seven innings. 

In the second game, the Dragons took an 8-3 lead through four innings which led to their victory and they dominated offensively with a 14-4 advantage in hits. 

Jackie Messersmith took the loss on the mound by giving up seven runs in two innings. 

Katie Dunphy had an RBI triple while Emily Stewart added an RBI double and Abby Funk had two singles in the contest.

The Oilers return to the field on Tuesday, April 1 when they face Saginaw Valley University in a two-game set.
