Top-10 Individual Performances - #3 Chelsea McManaway

The 2015-16 athletic year was another successful season for the Oilers, who saw a plethora of individual athletes achieve outstanding accomplishments. The UF athletic media relations staff has put together a list of the top-10 individual performances from the 2015-16 campaign and will be revealing them during the month of June.

#3 (Chelsea McManaway, Softball)

Chelsea McManaway turned in an incredible sophomore season for the Oilers softball team. She helped lead the team to a 31-21 record and their first-ever appearance in the GLIAC Tournament semifinals. The 31 wins registered by the Oilers in 2016 were the second-most in program history.

McManaway finished the 2016 campaign with a 16-8 record. She recorded a school record 219 strikeouts in only 152.0 innings and had a 0.83 earned run average, which was also good enough to establish a new school record. The hurler also posted five saves, another single season school record for the Oilers.

The Wellston, Ohio native had some dominating performances during the course of the year and was named the National Fastpitch Coaches Association (NFCA) National Player of the Week on March 30. She threw a no-hitter against Northwood on March 25 and tossed a perfect game against Saginaw Valley State on April 17. In her perfect game, McManaway struck out a career-high 18 batters in seven innings of work.

Over the course of the season, McManaway reached double digit strikeout totals in seven games. Her 219 strikeouts ranked second in the GLIAC while her 10.1 strikeouts per seven innings led the league and ranked fifth in the nation. Her earned run average of 0.83 ranked second in the GLIAC and fifth in the nation while her five saves ranked second in the conference and tenth among all NCAA Division II players.

McManaway was honored for her achievements by being named the 2016 GLIAC Pitcher of the Year, marking the first time an Oilers player has ever received the award. She was also named first team all-conference and second team all-region.
