Oilers Pick Up Two More Wins on Tuesday in Florida

Clermont, Fla. - The University of Findlay softball team made it eight straight wins on Tuesday, Feb. 28 with wins against the University of Bridgeport and Gannon University. With the wins, Findlay is now 9-2 on the year. 

Game 1 

The Oilers got it started in the bottom of the second inning with a one-out triple by Makayla Cowan. She would eventually come around to score on a single by Bailey Bates, opening up the scoring. Later in the inning, RBI singles by Alexys Antal and Annika Bredel sent two more runs home, making it 3-0. In the second, Findlay tallied five hits. 

Two innings later, Bridgeport had a good run of their own, tying the game back up at 3-3, using multiple extra base hits to score. 

In the bottom of the fourth, the OIlers answered. Bailey Bates doubled with one out and scored on a single by Avery Shepherd, who finished the game with four hits. 

In the bottom of the sixth, Caroline Turner singled to start the inning and was pinch-run for by Brooke Radermacher. Another double by Bates sent Radermacher home, but Bates was thrown out at third trying to stretch the double into a triple. Olivia Carlton had a two-RBI double with two outs to put Findlay ahead 7-3. 

Bridgeport would load the bases in the seventh, but did not score, ending the game. 

Shepherd went 4-for-4 out of her leadoff spot while Bates went 3-for-3 with two runs and two RBI. Cowan had two hits, including a triple, and a run scored. 

Emma Jones picked up the win in the circle. She improved to 4-0 on the year by throwing five innings and allowing just three runs, two earned, on five hits. She struck out one.  

Kora Navarro, who entered the game in the sixth, picked up a save by tossing two innings and allowing just two hits. 

Game 2  

The second game of the day was all Oilers as Findlay exploded for six runs in the first two innings of play. In the top of the first alone, Findlay produced three two-out hits, leading to three runs. 

One inning later, three more runs came around to score with the big blow, an Annika Bredel double that scored Bailey Bates and Lainey Bingham. 

Two more runs came in the third on an Avery Sherpherd double, and five runs in the fourth put the Oilers up 13-2, ultimately leading to a mercy-rule victory. 

Shepherd finished with two more hits, including a double, and two RBI while Carlton had two hits, including a double, two RBI, and a run scored.  

Makayla Cowan roped a pair of hits, a double and a triple, scored a run, and had an RBI while Caroline Turner had two hits, two runs scored, and two RBI. 

Lainey Bingham turned in a 3-for-3 performance with three runs scored and one RBI. 

Molly Pfiffner got the win, tossing four innings and allowing five runs, two earned, on five hits. She walked one and struck out five. 

Findlay will be back in action tomorrow, Wednesday, March 1, with a doubleheader against Nova Southeastern. That will begin at 2:00 pm.
