UF Swimming & Diving Signs 6

The UF Oilers swimming and diving team added six new student-athletes, who will be eligible to compete for Findlay during the 2015-16 season.  The men and women's squads each inked three individuals during the early signing period in November.

All three of the signees on the men's side are from Ohio while all three of the individuals on the women's side hail from out of state.

The new Oilers' on the men's side include Alexander Matthews (backstroke/freestyle), Trae Gulgin (backstroke/IM) and Luke Kleman (freestyle).

"I can't wait to coach these men next year," said head coach Andrew Makepeace.   "It's exciting to add such talented student-athletes to our team.  With their help we will keep pushing our program to new levels."

Matthews comes from Sprinboro High School and is from Springboro, Ohio.

"Alex will make an immediate impact for us next year in a variety of ways. He is very strong in the backstroke and is a good distance freestyler.  His versatility will be important for us."

Trae Gulgin arrives to the Oilers out of Bowling Green High School in Bowling Green, Ohio.

"I'm excited to have Trae on board next fall. He will bring a new dimension to the roster and really help bolster our rapidly improving team."

Luke Kleman is a product of Ottawa-Glandorf High School in Ottawa, Ohio.

"Luke should excel in a number events for us.  He can swim any distance in freestyle, which is a tremendous value to our team."

The three women joining the Oilers next year include Amanda Stiegal (freestyle), Hannah May (diving) and Madison Tanis (diving).

"We are very excited about our incoming class for next fall.  It will be exciting to add them to a roster already stocked full of talent."

Stiegal is from Wheaton North High School in Wheaton, Ill.

"I am very excited about the addition of Amanda. She is exactly what we are looking for in a student-athlete here at UF.  We have been looking for a talented freestyler that will solidify those events for years and we think we have found one in Amanda."

May will be arriving at UF from Eden High School in Hamburg, N.Y. while Tanis comes from North Penn High School in Hatfield, Pa.

"Madison and Hannah both come from good club teams and have coaches that helped build strong foundations for their diving future," said diving coach Stephanie Fleming.  "Hannah is finishing up a great high school season while preparing for the state meet and Madison gained valuable experience competing at the USA Diving Zones this past summer. I am really looking forward to working with both of them."
