UF Swimmers Complete 3-Day Event at Calvin
The University of Findlay men and women's swimming and diving teams wrapped up the Calvin Invitational on Dec. 3 in Grand Rapids, Mich.
Women
Meri Cizmar led the women's squad by taking first in the 200-yard backstroke with a time of 1:59.80. The time broke a school record and was a NCAA "B" standard qualifying mark. She also took second in the 200-yard IM with a time of 2:07.00 and teamed with Kathryn Samuelson, Hanna Cederholm and Lauren Blanchard to finish with the bronze in the 200-yard medley relay at 1:46.88.
Amanda Stiegal finished as the runner-up in the 100-yard freestyle with a time of 52.87 and teamed with Blanchard, Cederholm and Emma Barnes to finish sixth in the 400-yard freestyle at 3:37.99.
Julia Snell placed second in the 200-yard breaststroke at 2:21.71 and was followed by Cederholm, who took third at 2:24.09. Blanchard added a fourth place finish in the 100-yard freestyle after crossing the finish line in 5:09.95 while Barnes was sixth in the 500-yard freestyle at 5:09.95.
Katharine Kouvaris earned a fifth place finish in the 100-yard butterfly with a time of 58.51 and teamed with Olivia Wile, Snell and Brittany Borzych to take seventh in the 200-yard medley relay at 1:48.40.
Men
The men's squad was led by Janko Radmanovic, who achieved two NCAA Division II "B" standards during the meet. Radmanovic took second in the 100-yard butterfly with a "B" time of 48.42 and teamed with Conner Whitaker, Isaac Stretch and Nick Kaftan to take fourth in the 400-yard freestyle with a mark of 3:08.87. Radmanovic's time in the opening leg of 45.61 was good enough to establish a new school record and was also a "B" time.
Trae Gulgin took sixth in the 200-yard backstroke at 1:55.13 while Todo Djurovic was eighth in the 200-yard breaststroke with a time of 2:11.42.
The Oilers will be back in the pool again on Jan. 13 when they travel to Detroit, Mich. to battle Wayne State University in a dual meet.
