Oilers Smash Records at Calvin

The University of Findlay men and women's swimming and diving teams wrapped up day two of the Calvin Winter Invite on Dec. 3 in Grand Rapids, Mich. The Oilers had an incredible day as they set three school records and achieved nine provisional and "B" cuts.

On the men's side, sophomore Daniel Garcia won the 100-yard breaststroke with a school record-breaking time of 53.38, which was also a "B" cut. He also teamed with junior Tim Stollings, freshman Camilo Montano Marrugo, and freshman Angel Margaritov to win the 400-medley relay with a provisional and school record-breaking time of 3:11.79.

The Oilers 200-yard freestyle relay team of Montano Marrugo, Stollings, Margaritov, and sophomore Dags Bregis also broke a school record and achieved a provisional time with a first place finish of 1:20.25. Montano Marrugo also scored a first place finish in the 50-yard freestyle with a "B" cut time of 19.98 while Stollings added a first place finish in the 100-yard backstroke with a "B" cut time of 47.22 and picked up another "B" cut with his second place finish in the 50-yard freestyle at 20.02.

In the 100-yard breaststroke, sophomore Luca Chiandussi posted a third place finish with a "B" cut time of 54.39 while Margaritov was fifth in the 200-yard freestyle with a "B" cut time of 1:39.75.

On the women's side, sophomore Cecilia Langle took third in the 200-yard freestyle with a "B" cut time of 1:52.81 while freshman Mille Berg was fourth in the 100-yard backstroke at 56.46.

Freshman Macy May added a fourth place finish in the 50-yard freestyle after touching the wall in 23.97.

The Oilers will complete the event tomorrow.
