Track Finishes 2 Meets on Saturday

The University of Findlay men and women's track and field teams were in action on April 4 at the Florida Pepsi Relays in Gainesville, Fla. and at the Miami Invitational in Oxford, Ohio.

In Florida, Kendra Averesch achieved an eighth place finish in the shot put invitational with a NCAA provisional qualifying toss of 49'11.25.

Taylor Miller took 11th in the shot put invitational with a provisional heave of 57'05.00 while Justin Welch took 12th in the discus invitational with a provisional throw of 163'03. Welch also added a 21st place finish in the shot put with a mark of 51'11.25.

The track teams also had a great day at Miami as the two programs combined for five first place finishes.

Alexander Zolotoglavyy secured a first place finish in the long jump with a provisional leap of 24'03.50 and teammate Michael Bruce finished as the runner-up with a provisional mark of 23'09.

Demorrio Leggett won the triple jump with a mark of 46'00.75 while Sergi Torres was victorious in the 400-meter dash after crossing the finish line in 49.06, two spots ahead of Maliik Briggs, who was third with a time of 49.97.

Dillon Webster captured the gold in the 800-meter run at 1:54.30 and teamed with Torres, Briggs and Derek Collins to take the silver in the 4x400-meter relay with a time of 3:19.93.

In the discus, Brian Jennings was the runner-up with a provisional throw of 169'05 while Ben Hahler was third in the same event at 163'11, which was also a provisional mark. Hahler and Mathieu Marcoccia achieved provisional status in the shot put as well. Hahler was fourth with a mark of 55'00.00 and Marcoccia was sixth at 52'06.75. Hahler also added a fourth place finish in the hammer throw at 161'06.

The Oilers 4x100-meter relay team of Briggs, Torres, Collins and Jake Miller placed third with a time of 43.53, Jacob Hayes took fourth in the 3000-meter steeplechase after finishing with a time of 9:32.95 and Derek Spindler was fourth in the pole vault at 15'01.00.

On the women's side, the Oilers 4x400-meter relay team of Maud Sanmiquel, Laura Hernandez, Lydia Guagenti and Shelby Stump raced their way to a first place finishing time of 3:58.87 to lead the squad. Stump also added a third place finish in the 400-meter dash at 59.34 and Hernandez was fifth in the same event at 59.71. Sanmiquel finished fourth in the 400-meter hurdles and Guagenti earned a fourth place finish in the high jump at 5'02.25.

Erica King took home a second place finish in the hammer throw with a provisional qualifying heave of 177'02 while teammate Liz Streacker was third in the same event at 170'06, which was also good enough to earn provisional status.

Pam Showman finished fourth in the 100-meter hurdles at 14.52, followed closely by Sanmiquel's seventh place finish in the event at 14.84.

In the javelin, Guagenti was fifth at 116'00.00 and Showman was sixth with a mark of 133'04.00.

The Oilers had eight individuals compete in the 4x100-meter relay as their two squads took sixth and seventh, respectively. The team of Taylor Ackerman, Hernandez, Brittney Archer and Sanmiquel was sixth with a time of 51.58 while the squad of Briana McConnell, Milani Glass, Torie Allgire and Alison Connelly finished seventh after crossing the finish line in 52.44.

Showman also added a seventh place finish in the long jump with a leap of 17'00.00 while Samantha Grippe took seventh in the 800-meter run at 2:17.54.

The Oilers will return to action again on April 10-11 for the All-Ohio Championship in Oxford, Ohio.
