Men in Second, Women in Third at All-Ohio Meet
Oxford, OH – On Friday, April 10, the University of Findlay track and field team participated in Day 1 of the All-Ohio Track & Field Championships hosted by Miami University. The meet brings the best talent from all divisions of colleges and universities in Ohio.
Women
The Oilers earned a provisional mark from senior Taylor Ackerman. She won the long jump with her jump that distanced 19'02.00".
Another win and provisional came from junior Erica Bettac. She won the 3000 meter steeplechase with a time of 11:04.57.
Sophomore Erica King earned an NCAA provisional in the hammer throw as she took seventh with a throw of 173'11".
Senior Pam Showman is currently leading in the heptathlon. She has a 224 point lead over teammate Lydia Guagenti, who sits in second place.
As a team, the women are in third of the 11 competing teams with a total of 22 points.
Men
Junior Michael Bruce and sophomore Alexander Zolotoglavyy took first and second in the long jump. Each of them earned provisional marks in the event as their distances measured 24'03.75" and 23'08.75", respectively. Senior Demorrio Leggett also participated in the event and took sixth place with a distance of 22'06.50".
Senior Justin Welch earned another automatic qualifying mark in the hammer throw as he took first place by more than 20 feet with his distance of 229'05". Taylor Miller earned a provisional mark in the event as he took eighth place with his throw of 181'00".
Junior Derek Spindler participated in the pole vault and his jump of 14'01.25" was good enough for a third place finish.
After one day of competition, the Oilers sit in second place with 38 points, just six points behind the leader, Ohio State.
