Oilers Track Back in Action on Friday

The University of Findlay men and women's outdoor track and field teams sent several individuals to the University of Toledo on May 8.

On the men's side, Derek Spindler won the pole vault competition with a NCAA provisional qualifying mark of 4.67 while Michael Bruce (7.56) and Demorrio Leggett (15.10) captured victories in the long jump and triple jump, respectively. Both marks were good enough for provisional qualifying status.

Bruce also added a second place finish in the triple jump with a provisional mark of 15.08 while Alexander Zolotoglavyy was third in the long jump with a provisional leap of 7.28 and fifth in the triple jump at 14.22.

On the women's side at Toledo, Lydia Guagenti captured gold in the high jump with a provisional mark of 1.76 while Samantha Grippe was second in the 800-meter run after crossing the finish line in 2:09.53. The time was also good enough for provisional status.

Maud Sanmiquel finished third in the 400-meter hurdles with a provisional mark of 1:01.28 while Taylor Ackerman was fourth in the long jump (5.69) and sixth in the triple jump (11.26).

In addition, Erica Bettac competed at the Dr. Keeler Invitational in Naperville, Ill. She took third place in the 3000-meter steeplechase after crossing the finish line in 10:46.06. Bettac's blazing time allowed her to set a new school record and achieve provisional status in the event.
